Laura Wheeler received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Ohio State University in 1975 and her Masters of Science from the University of San Diego in 1986. She returned to USD and graduated in 2001 from the pediatric nurse practitioner program as well as the school nurse credentialing program.

She has worked in critical care, emergency department, and school nursing before she became a pediatric nurse practitioner. She has worked at Balboa Naval Medical Center and Vista Community Clinic as a pediatric nurse practitioner over the last 5 years. Laura has been a clinical nursing instructor at National University and now is a clinical instructor at USD in Growth and Behavioral Development for the nurse practitioner program.

Ms. Wheeler is a member of Zeta Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. She is on the board of the San Diego chapter of NapNap (National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners). She also is a long time supporter of Girl Scouts and is currently on their Board of Directors.
