Kathy S. James
Kathy James is an Associate Professor of Nursing in the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Sciences. She completed her DNSc and Family Nurse Practitioner Certification from the University of San Diego. She also completed certification in Women’s Health through a joint program with the University of California, San Francisco and Planned Parenthood. Dr. James maintains a private practice providing weight counseling for obese adolescents and their families. She volunteers at Cable Street Family Practice in Ocean Beach and at a clinic in Encinitas with a women’s health focus.

Dr. James’ research interests are in health promotion and obesity interventions. She is conducting a study to promote healthy bodies and increase nutrition knowledge at a middle school in San Diego. She recently completed a study of undergraduate and graduate students’ nutritional behaviors at USD. Her recent publication “All in the family: Treating obese children and adolescents" appears in the January, 2001 issue of Advanced Practice for Nurse Practitioners. Dr. James speaks to audiences of all ages at local events and national conferences.
