Admission Criteria for the Post-Master’s PhD Program

  • Graduate grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Completion of the University Application for the Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Program
  • One official transcript from each college or university attended
  • Three professional recommendations (including two from nurses with doctoral degrees)
  • An example of scholarly writing (thesis, article, paper)
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Resume
  • Interview
  • The GRE general test is recommended but not required
  • International applicants must meet additional requirements for admission http://www.sandiego.edu/admissions/graduate/international.php

*Current RN licensure before being awarded the PhD degree.

The priority application deadline is March 1 for Fall Entrance. All materials must be received by the priority deadline to receive priority consideration.
