Adult Nurse Practitioner

Admission

  • A BSN degree from an approved, accredited school*
  • Current California RN licensure
  • One year of clinical experience preferred
  • Basic computer literacy
  • A 3 semester credit course in statistics
  • A GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Completion of the University Application for Graduate Admission, including application fee
  • One official transcript from each college or university attended
  • Three completed recommendation forms (included in the Graduate Application)
  • The GRE general test is recommended but not required
  • Resume
  • Interview
  • Current baccalaureate level physiology and health assessment knowledge/skills
  • Student Nurse Practitioner professional liability and malpractice insurance coverage which must be maintained throughout enrollment
  • Evidence of specified immunizations and screening tests, a report of recent physical examination, and BLS certification
  • International applicants must meet additional requirements for admission http://www.sandiego.edu/admissions/graduate/international.php
*Applicants without a BSN must have an ADN or Diploma in Nursing from an approved, accredited program and a baccalaureate degree in a related field. In addition, they must take BSNC 333 and BSNC 447.

The application deadline is March 1. All materials must be received by this date.

Curriculum Plan

The ANP track requires completion of 40 academic units and a minimum of four sememsters of full-time study. The ANP track with the Gerontological Option requires the completion of 44 academic units and a minumum of four semesters and one or two summers of full-time study. Course sequences for full-time students in the ANP track and those in the ANP track with Gerontological Option are outlined below. Part-time study is also available.
