San Diego Catholic Worker -- Tom Reifer is a professor of sociology at the University of San Diego.
I was born in Spanish-Harlem in 1967, to heroin-addicted parents, though raised behind the Orange Curtain, the border of Orange and Los Angeles counties, where I grew up in a household whose only certainty was the apocalyptic violence and torture that came with being physically attacked, assaulted and strangled over and over again.
