SAN DIEGO, CA-  Former CEO of Medtronic Inc. and Harvard Business School professor Bill George has spent over 30 years in executive leadership positions.  On Friday, April 27, at 7:30 a.m. at the University of San Diego Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice, George will make a stop to tell local leaders how they can discover their true authentic leadership at the Second Annual USD Servant Leadership Breakfast.

After 10 years each as a senior executive at powerhouses Litton and Honeywell, George joined Medtronic where as President and Chief Executive Officer, he built the company into the world’s leading medical technology company and increased the company’s market capitalization from $1.1 billion to $60 billion.

Today, the best-selling author writes about his experiences as a leadership executive and the additional knowledge he has gained from interviewing 125 successful leaders in business and other walks of life, ranging in age from 23 to 93.

In his most recent book, “True North: Discovering Your Authentic Leadership,” George set-out to learn from leaders such as Charles Schwab, Anne Mulcahy and Howard Shultz just what distinctive qualities have made them successful leaders.  What George found often contradicts what other leadership experts have previously said.

“Bill George has redefined the integral qualities of an authentic executive leader,” says Kurt Gering, director of the USD Master of Science in Executive Leadership program, the host of Friday’s breakfast.  “His concrete plan: Know your authentic self; orient your moral compass; understand your motivations; build your support team; and stay grounded by integrating all aspects of your life, can guide anyone to become an authentic business leader.”

Dedicated to promoting the continued development of future business and community leaders, the annual leadership breakfast will conclude with a presentation of the 2007 USD School of Business Administration Servant-Leader Scholar Awards. The event is open to the public. A $60 fee includes breakfast. For more information, visit www.sandiego.edu/leadership or e-mail MSEL@sandiego.edu or call (619) 260-4828.
