The University of San Diego’s Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate has enrolled its largest Master of Science in Real Estate Class to date for the 2008-09 academic year. The record class size comes at a time when the area’s real estate market is in a significant downturn.
Students in the incoming class will kick off their academic year Aug. 25 with a one-week boot camp that covers the fundamentals of real estate, as well other essential career topics, such as presentation skills, business writing and career mapping. The 11-month program is run as a cohort, so class sizes are limited to allow for team building and personalized education. The incoming class is comprised of 27 students: 21 full-time and six part-time.
“We are delighted to have such strong interest in our graduate real estate program particularly in the current real estate environment,” says Mark J. Riedy, executive director of the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate. “Clearly, these incoming students realize that real estate is a great lifelong career choice and that the University of San Diego is one of the best places to study it, given our intense industry involvement and the area’s dynamic real estate markets.”
The incoming class includes students from across the country and around the world who are coming to study real estate in what is currently one of the most challenging markets in the United States. One student drove 44 hours non-stop from Albany to reach the University of San Diego campus. Another student moved his wife and two children from Japan to join the program.
Founded in 1993, the University of San Diego’s Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate is committed to delivering outstanding education, industry outreach, career and research services to advance socially responsible leadership in the real estate profession. As part of the University’s School of Business Administration, the Center offers a Master of Science in Real Estate degree, an undergraduate minor in real estate, a Certificate in Real Estate Finance, Investments and Development, a Certificate in Land Use and Sustainable Community Development and several major industry conferences throughout the year.
