The Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies at the University of San Diego is pleased to announce Everard “Ev” Meade as the new Director of the Trans-Border Institute (TBI).
Dr. Meade received a PhD in History from the University of Chicago and is a published scholar with extensive experience teaching courses on the history of Mexico, U.S. relations with Latin America and human rights. He was co-founder of the Eleanor Roosevelt College Human Rights Minor Program at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Meade’s most recent research focuses on individuals and families who have fled violence in Mexico and Central America. For the past fifteen years, Dr. Meade has also served as advisor, activist, expert witness and grant writer raising funds for the Chicago-based National Immigrant Justice Center.

Dr. Meade, who officially began his position on March 1, looks forward to applying his knowledge and experience at TBI. He explains, “The essence of all of my work, including the most obscure corners of my historical research, is promoting peace and justice. At TBI and the Kroc School, I think I’ve found a place where I can give full voice to this effort, and where I can bring the full range of my training and experience to bear.”

As for his plans for the Trans-Border Institute, Dr. Meade says, “I hope to integrate TBI more fully into the peace and justice mandate of the Kroc School, to expand our geographic purview to include Central America (as well as Mexico), and to shift our research and analysis in a slightly more qualitative, humanistic direction.”

The Trans-Border Institute at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace Studies promotes an essential understanding, dialogue, and collaboration between Mexico and the United States. Through measures such as policy research and analysis, international dialogue, and education programs, TBI addresses urgent transnational issues affecting their people and those of neighboring countries.
