The University of San Diego’s WorldLink Program will host the 17th Annual Youth Town Meeting (YTM), which will focus on the theme of “Global Conflicts: Human Impact, Human Solutions.”

WorldLink’s 17th YTM will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Over 700 high school students from the United States, Mexico and abroad and more than 15 leading experts will come to the USD campus to engage in meaningful discussion on global conflicts, and focus specifically on the following topics: poverty and hunger, global health, environment and land, human protection, and peace processes.

This year’s speakers include Annie Kim, from UNICEF, an organization that works to improve children’s lives by providing healthcare, emergency relief and more; Rebecca Trotzky and Sophie Westacott, from the Program for Torture Victims, a Los Angeles-based organization helping rebuild the lives of torture survivors from over 65 countries; and Sedrick Murhula, a refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo and founder and director of the Young African Refugees for Integral Development.

YTMs are grounded in the belief that youth have much to offer and much to gain from discussion with experts and professionals regarding the complexities and challenges of international affairs. As a student from CETYS Universidad in Baja Mexico said, “Global issues are no longer a concern of adults only, but also of young people, like me, who are interested in shaping the world we live in.”

This event is reserved for students and is not open to the public. For more information, contact WorldLink Program Officer Debbie Martinez at 619.260.7568, or dmartinez@sandiego.edu.
