Microsoft brings its YouthSpark Connection to The University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) on Thursday, February 28. This event focuses on youth development and empowerment to achieve success in the classroom. They will discuss the Youth Opportunity Divide in San Diego and provide resources for the adults that educate them.

Microsoft, in collaboration with The Brookings Institution, has research showing that the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) industries are driving economic growth. The question they explore is “what are we doing to address the skills gap and prepare our students to enter and excel in these competitive industries?”

The Connection will include presentations and a panel discussion featuring Moderator Rory Devine, education reporter, NBC 7 San Diego; Shelly Anguiano Figueroa, chief executive officer of San Marcos Boys & Girls Clubs; Richard Barrera, board trustee, San Diego Unified School District; Darryl LaGace, executive vice president of Global Business Development, Lightspeed Systems; Otto Lee, EdD, vice chancellor, Instructional Services and Planning, San Diego Community College District; Maureen Magee, education reporter, U-T San Diego; and Chelsea Huskey, 2012 San Diego County Youth of the Year.
