Geologist John Fletcher from the Centro de Investigación Científica y de Educación Superior de Ensenada (CICESE) will discuss the 7.2 earthquake felt in much of Southern California and epicentered in Mexicali, Baja California on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010. The event takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. in the University of San Diego’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice Conference Room C/D.
Fletcher will provide a geological explanation of the earthquake and its many aftershocks, review the natural and structural damage that ensued, and discuss the potential for future seismic activity in the San Diego/Imperial Valley/Baja California region.
Fletcher obtained his PhD from the University of Utah in 1994 and is now a faculty member in the Earth Sciences Division of CICESE in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
