Academic Technology Services at the University of San Diego is hosting the 5th Annual Faculty Open House Technology Fair on Friday, Feb. 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. The Tech Fair, as it’s called more colloquially, will feature a range of 33 technology exhibits and vendors presenting their products and services as well as USD faculty sharing their experience with colleagues — all of which is presented in a trade show atmosphere.
The presenters — a few of whom include SMART, Apple, Adobe, HP, and Blackboard — will demonstrate their products or services and offer brief training. Faculty can peruse the products that will allow them to enhance the learning experience for today’s tech-savvy college students, as well as to streamline their workflow.
USD has much technological integration already, including hosting personal websites for professors, offering web conferencing capabilities, and supporting course management services like Blackboard. USD faculty members, administrative personnel, and support staff are invited to learn more about these and other features and opportunities.
“We want our faculty to know that we are staying apprised of the changes that affect teaching and learning,” says Shahra Meshkaty, senior director of Academic Technology Services. “We plan and prepare to assist them with successful rollouts and adoption of new technology, new practices and techniques.”
The Tech Fair has experienced mounting success and popularity over the past four years. It was originally held in the Academic Technology Services office in Maher Hall, but spilled into the hallways surrounding the office, eventually moving to the UC Forums, where it will be held this year. Some 350 fairgoers are expected to attend.
