U.S. Army Brigadier General H.R. McMaster will speak at the 2010 James Bond Stockdale Leadership and Ethics Symposium at the University of San Diego on Jan. 26. The event is at 7 p.m. in USD\'s Shiley Theatre in Camino Hall and is free and open to the public.
McMaster will discuss the \"Moral, Ethical and Psychological Preparation of Leaders and Units for Combat: Thoughts for Future Officers.\"
He currently serves as the director of Concept Development and Learning at the Army Capabilities Integration Center, Training and Doctrine Command in Fort Monroe, Virginia. He also holds a Ph.D. in military history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
McMaster commanded a squadron during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Iraq. He also served a one-year combat mission in Iraq in 2005 as the 71st Colonel of the Third Armored Calvary Regiment in Fort Carson, Colorado. From 2006 to 2008, he was assigned to U.S. Central Command with duty in London as a senior research associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies and duty in Iraq as special assistant to the commander of the Multi-National Force there.
The Stockdale Symposium encourages members of the local community to join with university, military and corporate representatives to join together for discussions of moral issues in leadership in our society. The late Admiral Stockdale, a Medal of Honor recipient, bore witness to the importance of studying, understanding and applying ethical principles to one\'s profession and the conduct of one\'s life.
