Noon-time concerts each weekday are free. Music lovers are invited to bring a lunch. The public also can attend rehearsals and master classes as auditors.
For a full schedule of events go to www.sandiego.edu/symphony or call (619) 260-4106. USD’s Music Program and University of the Third Age program to encourage life-long learning are sponsoring the festival.
This year’s festival musicians range in age from 9 to 66. Most are local or from California but there is one coming all the way from South Korea and others from New York and Colorado.
They will be instructed by members of the San Diego Symphony and faculty members of the USD Music Program who will also participate in the performances.
The standard chamber music ensembles, including piano trios, string quartets, and woodwind quartets will perform throughout the week.
“This is an excellent opportunity to hear music by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert and other great composers performed by some very talented musicians of all ages,” said Angela Yeung, Ph.D., director of the Summer Chamber Music Festival, who also directs USD’s Music Program, Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Music Ensembles.
