Dear Campus Community,
We have all watched in disbelief as massive wild fires have burned thousands of acres in San Diego County destroying homes, businesses, parks and other property. Our prayers go out to our region’s emergency response personnel as they try valiantly to save as many lives and properties as possible.
While several schools and universities directly impacted by the fires have temporarily closed, the University of San Diego campus remains unaffected and fully operational. All classes, finals and other campus activities will proceed as previously scheduled.
To help members of our campus community stay as healthy as possible and hydrated, we have established three water stations on campus. Ice cold bottles of water can be found outside of La Paloma, the Student Life Pavilion and Missions/Crossroads Café. Water bottles are complimentary, but we urge you to recycle all empty bottles.
Local officials have asked residents to do their best to conserve energy during peak periods. Below are a few things you can do to conserve energy:
While we have no reason to believe there will be any risk posed to USD, the Department of Public Safety has posted emergency evacuation information on the DPS Emergency Procedures website. USD resident students who are unfamiliar with our emergency evacuation procedures should speak with their Community Director right away. All others should closely follow County of San Diego guidelines in the event of an emergency evacuation.
It is up to each of us to remain vigilant and stay informed. The County of San Diego Emergency website remains the best resource for ongoing updates on this constantly evolving situation. Download the app to your smartphone right away.
USD has already provided assistance to our friends at CSU San Marcos. If other opportunities to assist other organizations arise, we will keep you informed. In the meantime, I ask that you keep our region in your thoughts and prayers as the County continues to struggle to gain control of these terrible fires. #prayforsandiego.
