Michael Popkins '76 (JD) Appointed San Diego County Superior Court Judge
San Diego (May 21, 2013) - Today, California Governor Jerry Brown appointed University of San Diego (USD) School of law alumnus Michael J. Popkins, '76 (JD), San Diego County Superior Court Judge.
Popkins has been a deputy public defender in San Diego County since 1985, handling numerous high-profile matters, including several death penalty cases. He was lead attorney in the defense of John Gardner III, who pleaded guilty in 2010 to raping and killing two North County teenagers.
