Title

Fall 2012 Neuroscience Colloquium: Call for Abstracts

Message

What Is The Event?

Each semester, the Psychology Department hosts a colloquium to offer students who have pursued research or internship projects the opportunity to share their work via an oral presentation. This semester, in light of our new Behavioral Neuroscience major, students’ neuroscience research will be highlighted. A second colloquium (and call for submissions) for general psychology research will take place in the spring.

Why Should I Present?

The series affords students the chance to garner feedback on both their research and presentation skills in a friendly, academic environment. This is especially useful for those who plan to apply to graduate programs in the psychological sciences.

What Does Presenting Involve?

Presentations will be 15-20 minutes in length. Students may select the particular material(s) they want to use for their presentation; a projector, slide projector, computer, SMART Board, and VCR will be provided.

Participants will receive a certificate for presenting, and their names will be engraved on a plaque. A lunch reception will also be served at the colloquium.

How Do I Apply?

Submissions are due October 5th by 5 PM. The following materials must be included: (1) student’s name, (2) faculty supervisor’s name & email, (3) title of project, (4) 150-word abstract, & (5) one-page letter of recommendation from the faculty supervisor.

The selection process will be competitive: a faculty committee will select awardees on the basis of their scientific merit and contribution to the field of neuroscience. Submissions may be based on completed projects, ongoing research, related internship projects, or research proposals. SURE students are strongly encouraged to submit their work. Selected participants will be notified by November 1st.
