Darlene Shiley Puts Heart and Soul into Giving


U-T San Diego -- An American rags-to-riches story, Donald and Darlene Shiley both began life on the poor side of town. Darlene's mother worked as a stenographer for the Alameda police and her stepfather was a welder. Although raised in the projects, Darlene's mother sent her to stay with her grandmother in Oakland during the week so she could attend better schools. (Full Story
