Message

U-T San Diego -- Tamasaburo Bando V is one of Japan’s most celebrated performers of Kabuki, the traditional dance/drama form whose roots date back some 500 years. Now, the 61-year-old artist also is a Kyoto Prize laureate. He received the prestigious $625,000 prize (bestowed by Japan’s Inamori Foundation) in 2011.

Next week, Tamasaburo — who is deemed a tate oyama, or leading interpreter of female roles — will speak and perform at the University of San Diego as part of the Kyoto Prize Symposium. (Full Story
