With expanding business opportunities in East Asia, many U.S. companies have entered the market during the last few decades. However, due to lack of effective market entry strategies, only a few U.S. companies have succeeded. Also, many studies have shown that in comparison to managers in other countries, U.S. managers are not as well equipped with the appropriate cultural skills and understandings of East Asian countries. It is extremely difCicult to Cind a successful business formula in East Asia without proper market entry strategies and a clear understanding of the local market, consumers, and institutions. This seminar will focus on three countries in East Asia: China (April 24th) Japan (April 29th) and Korea (May 1st), and provide various specific tools and strategic frameworks that will help businesses achieve success.
Dr. Mannsoo Shin is currently a professor of International Business and serving as Director for Center for Asian Business at Korea University Business School. He received his BBA from Korea University (1981), MBA from University of Hawaii (1983) and Ph.D. from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1989). He was Associate Dean at Korea University Business School during 2002 and 2005, and served as president of Korean Academy of International Business in 2011. He served as editor-in-chief for Korean Journal of International Trade and Industry. He has been also a consultant to many Korean firms including Hyundai Motors, Samsung SDI, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, POSCO, KT & G, Nongshim, and Korean Ministry of Labor. He has served on various committees for Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency, Korean Ministry of Public Administration and Security, Korea Water Resources Corporation, and Korea Customs Service, and is also a member of the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board.
