The theme of the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women is “Challenges and Achievements in the Implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for Women and Girls.”

It is said there can be no development without peace …

Can there be peace without security? How do women and girls define security, peace and development? What goals are they striving for the world to recognize post-2015?

Taking a local perspective from Women PeaceMakers and international leaders in development and women, peace and security, this panel will examine the requisite security dimensions for women and girls to advance the MDGs in conflict-affected societies.

Panelists:
Dee Aker, Interim Director, Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice
Jennifer Freeman, Program Officer, Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice
Rehana Hashmi, 2013 Woman PeaceMaker from Pakistan
Madeleine Rees, Secretary General, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom
