The Case Against Removal: Harm and Harm Avoidance in Deportation Practices

This brown bag lunch presentation will focus on the impact of removal on individuals who are in several relevant respects well integrated in their country of residence. A complementary perspective will be presented by looking outward to the physical, psychological, economic and social prospective experience of the noncitizen in the event of being physically removed from the state of long-term residence.
Barbara Buckinx is a fellow at the Center on Global Justice at the University of California, San Diego. She received her PhD in politics from Princeton University and has held research fellowships at Center for Advanced Studies ‘Justitia Amplificata,’ and The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, both at Goethe University and the Political Theory Project at Brown University. Her main research interests are immigration, borders and global governance. Her work has appeared in Critical Review of International Social and Political Philosophy Ethics and International Affairs, and Global Justice: Theory Practice Rhetoric.
