Game Changer: New Media and Multiples from the Matthew and Iris Strauss Family Foundation
|Event Start Date||Friday, February 15, 2013 – Sunday, March 3, 2013|
Exhibit Hall in the Student Life Pavilion
Whether a political parable like Mel Chin’s 9-11/9-11 or an image of transcendent unboundedness like Sam Taylor-Wood’s Self-Portrait, Suspended III, the dozen works in this exhibition enact art’s capacity to sharpen attention and shake loose assumptions. The innovative works question the history, materials and presentation values of traditional fine art displays.
The examples of photography, video, sculpture and installation art in this collection tackle conventional frames and challenge canonical narratives. Free of instrumental obligations and institutional conventions, the artists in Game Changer create a realm of provocation and reflectiveness for the viewer, suggesting that change, it would seem, is launched by consciousness. Along with Chin and Taylor-Wood, the globally renowned artists in the collection include Vanessa Beecroft (Italy), Valeska Soares (Brazil), Angela De La Cruz (Spain) and Fred Wilson (USA).
The free exhibition takes place in the Exhibit Hall of the Student Life Pavilion.
