The University of San Diego School of Law welcomes experts from the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USTPO) to discuss the implementation of the America Invents Act (AIA).
USPTO staff will discuss the implementation of AIA and encourage general discussion about third-party procedures (pre-issuance and post-grant), reexaminations, reissues and accelerated processes during examination. Local attorneys and academics will also provide presentations on the AIA and Federal Circuit case law in the wake of KSR and Bilski.
Remy Yucel: Group Director in Technology Center 1600, which focuses on subject matter in the areas of biotechnology, biochemistry, organic chemistry and pharmaceutical patent applications. Yucel has been with the USPTO since 1996 and was named group director in April 2008. She is also director of the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU).
Jean Witz: Patent Examiner in Biotechnology in Group 180, which examines a variety of applications covering subject matter as diverse as cosmetics to therapeutic treatments involving animal extracts, enzymes and tissue and cell culture. Witz joined the USPTO in 1988 as a patent examiner, focusing on a variety of applications covering subject matter as diverse as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and therapeutic treatments. In 2000, she was awarded an Exceptional Career Award for her performance and service.
The San Diego Intellectual Property Law Association is a State Board of California-approved MCLE provider and certifies that this event is approved for MCLE credit in the amount of 6 hours of general credit.
