|Event Start Date||Saturday, April 2, 2011|
|Event Start Time||5:30 pm - 8:00 pm|
As we draw closer to the spring, FUSO is getting ready to present to the community their annual Pilipino Cultural Night. As a student organization striving to bring awareness of the Filipino culture, we invite you to attend our student-led production.
(I) NAKO, (WE) ANAK NYO
Bonds within the family are everlasting, and can serve as a source of strength for our everyday lives. But in this year’s Pilipino Cultural Night, we will see how disconnected we can be from the very people we share blood with. For parents, they want only the best for their children and struggle to guide them through their lives. For youth, they face challenges to their identities and self esteem everyday — something misunderstood and strange to their parents.
Ever since Nathan refused to join the service, peace in the Mariano household has been non-existent. At the same time, Ethan is has finally come to terms with his identity, and wants only to unite himself within the chaos of family. As the mother of the household, Melly tries to act as mediator between the boys and their father, but things aren’t turning out the way they all expected. Meanwhile, in the de Guzman house, Mandy has been the prodigal daughter for her mother her whole life. But as she is faced with new obstacles every day, her morality is challenged by the people around her. Friend to Mandy, Nikki strives only to be the best student she can be, but she is finding out that college is harder than she thought. Trying to meet their expectations, her parents only try to encourage her to do well, but their advice is not received well by their daughter. The stories of the different parents, children, and friends illuminate the battles we all encounter, in and out of the house, and how vital communication, dialogue, and understanding are for the family dynamic.
FUSO is also working with BKP Inc. to sponsor a book drive. Please bring in any new or used books to our PCN.
About BKP Inc.
We are currently in the process of collecting any new or used books (with an emphasis on children's books, but all types of books are welcome) from friends and family. This summer we will be opening up two new libraries: one in Pamplona in the province of the Cagayan Valley and another at Ramon Magsaysay Elementary School located in Quezon City.
