| Message | The Ahlers Center for International Business presents: Ming Yu Cheng Malaysia has experienced strong growth, reduction of poverty, and moved to a middle-income economy. It is the second fastest growing nation in the ASEAN region after Singapore. What will it take to keep this momentum and for Malaysia to make the leap out of middle-income status to create homegrown, internationally competitive industries? Please join Dr. Cheng as she highlights some of the nation’s major milestones in its economic transformation and discusses some of the challenges and strategies ahead for Malaysia moving up the higher value added economy ladder. Speaker Bio: She works on a number of projects related to economic development, especially on social capital, globalization, human capital development and competitiveness studies. She was a recipient of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowship (JSPS) in 2002, a Fulbright Visiting Scholar (2004 – 2005) and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore (2007 - 2008).
