Volunteer Opportunities at USD

CASA (Center for Awareness, Service and Action)
and CSL (Community Service-Learning)

CASA and CSL increase awareness of the local and global community through expanding and enriching service learning opportunities. They provide six different ways for USD community members to get involved, ranging from on-campus involvement to international opportunities. Visit their website to find out more!

St. Vincent de Paul Village

Help prepare the lunchtime meal at this downtown soup kitchen, the largest transitional housing program in San Diego County, serving over 1.7 million meals a year. A group departs USD each Thursday at 11 a.m. and returns by 1 p.m.

In addition to assisting with the preparation and service of lunch, USD students spend time learning about homelessness and poverty in San Diego as well as developing relationships with the clients of St. Vincent’s.

To sign up, contact the Romero Center at x4897 or by e-mail to kmartin@sandiego.edu

Special Delivery

Deliver meals to homebound men, women, and children living with HIV, AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses in the downtown San Diego area. A group departs campus each Friday afternoon at 2:30 and returns by 5 p.m.

An all-volunteer organization, Special Delivery has been delivering nutritious meals for over 15 years. USD students play a critical role in the organization’s efforts, not only delivering food but also serving as one of the clients’ primary contacts and developing relationships with them.

To sign up, contact the Romero Center at x4897 or by e-mail to kmartin@sandiego.edu

Interfaith Shelter Network

Serve the homeless.  Once each semester the Romero Center takes responsibility for staffing the Interfaith Shelter Network, a rotational shelter program serving homeless women, men, and children in San Diego County.

In the Fall semester, the Romero Center will staff the shelter on October 19 – 26. The Spring semester dates are February 8 – 15.

Spend time preparing, serving, and sharing meals, playing with children, and learning about the lives of those who are homeless.
