Microsoft Exchange Project
Welcome to the Exchange Project information site. This site will provide members of the University of San Diego community with information regarding the mandatory migration of Faculty, Staff and Administrator e-mail to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.
A few of the reasons that we are transitioning to Exchange are:
- The features in Exchange are far more robust than our previous e-mail system, Mirapoint.
- The shared calendaring feature was in high demand, and Mirapoint lacked this important functionality.
- The use of Exchange will result in a more secure environment and more secure computing for the university.
- The Outlook Web interface is far superior to Mirapoint's Web interface. This is important, as we begin to additional integrated services to the campus that have Web-based features (such as Sharepoint).
- Features for mobile devices such as Blackberry and iPhones were not possible with Mirapoint, but are available with Exchange.
- Transitioning Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 has allowed us to increase our reliability, because we now have redundnacy with the Exchange server.
- Including the Active Directory (AD) account, faculty are given 20 GB or storage space, which is mirrored in the Data Center. This provides an easy solution for faculty to store important files, documentation and research.
Once we transition the entire campus to Exchange, we will decommission our old e-mail server, Mirapoint. If you or your office has not yet been migrated to Exchange, your department will be contacted by ITS to coordinate the migration process for your building, division or department. This implementation requires collaboration between the designated person from your department/school, a faculty member to assist with communication (in Academic Department migrations), and several ITS staff members working together to communicate critical information, schedule times, and to migrate your e-mail from one server to another while a technician is assisting with the process right in your office.
