All are welcome to join Bishop Fernand Cheri for his lecture: “My Spiritual Journey.”

Pope Francis appointed Fernand Cheri, OFM, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of New Orleans in January 2015, the first African American Bishop appointed in nearly a decade.  At the time, Bishop Cheri was serving as director of campus ministry at Quincy University in Illinois. He has an extensive background in liturgy, music and spirituality. He received his Master of Divinity degree at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans and a Master of Theology at Xavier University in New Orleans. He serves on the board of the National Black Catholic Congress(NBCC), as well as the U.S. Bishops' subcommittee on Black Catholic worship and the National Joint Conference of Black Religious Planning Committee. He has created youth gospel choirs, initiated the Black Saints’ Celebrations for the Archdiocese of New Orleans and is the convener and facilitator of Go Down Moses Retreats for African American Catholic Young Men. Bishop Cheri is a revivalist and preacher, and noted practitioner of Gospel Music, who proclaims with St. Paul, “My grace is enough for you, for in weakness power reaches perfection” (2 Cor 12:9).

Opening music will be by Lanee’ Battle Johnson, singer and songwriter. Lanee’s wellspring of talent stems from her Huntsville, Alabama roots in Gospel Music. It is her endeavor to preserve the purity, simplicity and unsurpassed love of Christ in every lyric sung.

This event is free and open to all. Reception to follow.
