Dr. Coil will discuss the various ways in which it is thought that accreting supermassive black holes, observed as Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN), impact the lives of the galaxies they live in. She will present the observational and theoretical motivation for the existence of AGN feedback or outflowing gas driven by AGN, and also present two recent observational results aimed at understanding which galaxies host AGN and how to identify AGN-driven outflows in distant galaxies.

Join us next Tuesday for food, drink, and physics!
