Mondragon is one of the leading international examples of cooperative ownership of enterprise and inter-firm collaboration. Mondragon has not only made these characteristics its foundational values, but it also uses them strategically, to complete around the world in advanced manufacturing, retail, finance and knowledge. This presentation will introduce Mondragon, its special features and particular international challenges.

Speaker Biography:
Dr. Fred Freundlich is a professor of organizational behavior and research methods in the Faculty of Business at Mondragon University. In addition, he is the associate of its research center, MIK-Mondragon Innovation & Knowledge, located in the Basque Country of Spain. Dr. Freundlich coordinates the faculty’s masters program in Social Economy and Cooperative Enterprise, and he participates in research, training and technical assistance projects related to broad employee ownership in Mondragon and in other parts of Europe, the Americas, and most recently, Korea. He worked for fourteen years at the firm, Ownership Associates, an American consulting company specializing in organizational development and training in companies with broadly shared ownership. This year, Dr. Freundlich is a visiting scholar at the Beyster Institute at the Rady School of Management, UC San Diego.
