Did you know that obesity is the leading cause of preventable illness and death in the United States?
There is no better time than now to start taking steps to reverse these trends and help improve the quality of life for everyone in our community, especially children.
USD's Human Resources Department presents the HBO documentary "The Weight of the Nation." The event offers an in-depth look at childhood obesity followed by a lively discussion about how to reduce obesity rates.
Panelists include Kaiser Permanente physician Edward John Rott, who also holds a master's degree in public health; Cheryl Moder, vice president of Collective Impact and director of the San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative and Deirdre Kleske, health educator with California Project LEAN.
There will also be a reception featuring healthy snacks and information booths including Gardening with Courtney Walters, Exercise with Pam Iuppa and The Grocery Store with Tracy Benson.
Kaiser Permanente and Cigna are co-sponsors of the event.
