With Ash Wednesday, we begin the Lenten period. J.S Bach wrote much music for this special time in the Church year. In his musical reflections on the Passion of Christ, he paints vivid images in sound that are deeply stirring and as moving as are contemporary visual images. This lecture with Dr. Marianne Pfau looks at images we hold in USD's print collection and at moments from four of Bach's Lenten Cantatas, which will be featured in USD's yearly Angelus Early Music concert on March 29.
