* Event Update *
Regrettably, due to unforeseen health problems, Mr. Cecil Taylor, the 2013 recipient of the Kyoto Prize in Arts and Philosophy, will not attend Wednesday’s presentation at the University of San Diego.
Although Mr. Taylor is extremely disappointed to miss the presentation and the opportunity to share his music and poetry with the San Diego audience, Taylor and event organizers insist the show must go on.
Wednesday’s revised Kyoto Prize Symposium program will include videotaped remarks from Mr. Taylor, and a performance by three talented San Diego musicians Christopher Adler (piano), Justin Grinnell (bass), and Vikas Srivastava (drums). USD’s Dr. David Harnish, chair of the Department of Music and UC San Diego Professor of Music Anthony Davis will lead a tribute to Taylor involving live music, video clips and lecture overviews on his work and legacy in the history of jazz.
Thank you for your understanding and support. We hope to see you at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 19 at the University of San Diego’s Shiley Theatre.
