The experiences of men of color up to and through higher education will be discussed by Dr. Shaun R. Harper, who has recently completed a study focusing on the factors the contributed to the academic success of 400 Black and Latino men in New York City. Instead of examining what contributes to Black and Latino underachievement, disengagement, and drop-out rates, his study focused on what enabled these men to succeed in high school and prepared them for college. This talk will address this study and examine race and gender in higher education, Black male access and achievement, and college student engagement. Each attendee will receive a copy of the completed report, to be released this fall by the Center for the Study of Race and Equity in Education where he is Director.

Following Dr. Harper’s keynote address there will be a reception for attendees where Dr. Harper will be available for discussion one on one or in small groups.
