Two Week Intensive Photo-Documentary Workshop

This hands-on workshop emphasizes the storytelling aspects of photojournalism while instilling strong technical fundamentals to transform photographs from single images to story-telling images. Over the course of the workshop, students will be introduced to the real world of photojournalism through an intensive two weeks of shooting assignments. Students will discuss and critique their photographs and their future directions in documentary photography and/or journalism and work with Jon Lowenstein in creating a newspaper with their stories.

The workshop is available for youth 16 to 20 years old, who are residents of Escondido.

Award-winning professional photographer Jon Lowenstein of NOOR Images specializes in long-term, in-depth projects that confront the realms of power, poverty, and violence. As a documentary photographer, he strives for unsparing clarity, and believes images make a critical contribution by revealing the subjects of history that lack voice. Some of his awards include the 2011 John Simon Memorial Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in the field of Photography. He is also currently a 2011 TED Global Fellow. In 2012, he was the winner of the Editorial Section of the Hasselblad Masters Awards.
