Description

This seminar takes a "cradle to cradle" approach to the management of resources, processes, information and relationships that drive economic systems between and within organizations. We will take the perspective that supply chains are the core mechanism for economic activity, and as such, are a critical area for the execution of corporate social responsibility (CSR). The seminar will consist of case examples, video, web resources and extensive in-class dialog and participant interaction.

Learning Objectives

  • Apply the concept of "world class supply chain management" in analyzing global organizations
  • Define the core strategic issues relating to social and environmental responsibility
  • Integrate the above objectives to propose operational processes needed to monitor, measure and improve social and environmental performance across the supply chain.

Seminar Leader:

Dr. Croom has spent his entire professional career in supply chain management, both as a practitioner and as a leading academic researcher. His postgraduate studies were in politics, history and management science. His PhD research was centered on co-design capabilities in the auto industry supply chain of Jaguar cars, and conducted in the doctoral program of Warwick Business School in the U.K. Dr. Croom was admitted as Fellow to the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply in 1992. He has held an Associate Professorship in Operations at Warwick Business School for twelve years and previously was Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management, Operations Research and Supply Chain Management at Sheffield Hallam and Coventry Universities, both in the U.K.

In his business career, Dr. Croom owned several successful retail businesses and was a supply chain professional at Jaguar Cars Ltd. and Eaves & Washbourned, both located in England. Dr. Croom has written and spoken worldwide on the topics of e-procurement, e-business and supply chain strategy. He instigated the first e-business course at Warwick Business School and his expertise led to his being retained as an Advisor to the U.K. Government Office of Commerce. He has since completed a $400,000 project on World Class Supply Chain for a major financial organization in the U.K. He has published over sixty technical papers and serves on the editorial board for a number of leading journals.
