Peter Tolkin is an architect and a photographer. In 2002, Architectural Record named him one of ten emerging international architects in its annual Design Vanguard issue. His work has been recognized with numerous AIA awards and been published nationally and internationally in The New York Times, Architectural Record, Dwell, Domus, Abitare and Frame. His photographic work - including projects such as “Airline Food” and “Wexner’s Center” - has been exhibited widely and currently, he is a professor of architecture at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona

The early work of Peter Tolkin Architecture (PTA) focused on the revitalization and redevelopment of buildings in Old Town Pasadena and the firm developed an expertise in pedestrian-scaled urban commercial and retail projects.  PTA's experience in Old Pasadena led to work in other cities with downtown revitalization plans such as Santa Monica, Long Beach, Merced and Claremont.  In 2009, PTA’s Pasadena Bike Transit Center received the Los Angeles Architecture Award for Design Concept.

Peter Tolkin, along with Mabel O. Wilson, is a collaborator on SideProjects.  Their photo essay about artist John Outterbridge “Catfish and Coltrane” was published in the collection The Architecture of the Everyday.
